For most Brazilians, getting a driver's license after turning 18 is a dream, but unfortunately for many it ends up being a very distant reality. Currently, the average for obtaining a category B license, which is for a car, is from R$ 1,500 to R$ 2,600 depending on the state and region.

Detran, in partnership with several state governments, enables a modality called CNH Social, where low-income users can obtain the license at no cost.

But who is entitled to a Social CNH?

As it is a state program, requirements may change from state to state, but in general it has the following basis:

•Receive up to 2 minimum wages. (proven)
•Be students in the public education network.

•People unemployed for more than 1 year.

What documents are needed?

Currently, due to the pandemic, the entire process is done online, just go to your state's DMV website and search for CNH Social.

To fill out the form, the documents required are:


•CPF
•RG
•Work card (if applicable)
•Proof of address.
•Birth certificate of children and dependents,
if they do not have ID.

And after being approved?

After the process of submitting the documents and approval, whoever is approved will be directed to the Driving School, and all procedures and classes will be carried out.
