The Nota Fiscal Paulista was created in 2007, with the aim of reducing tax evasion in the state of São Paulo. This is because customers would start using their CPF in their purchases and commercial companies would register these purchases together with the Federal Revenue Service.

The incentive for citizens to allow their CPFs in their purchases are refunds of percentages of purchases, for example: you are able to receive from 5% to 30% of the Tax on Circulation of Products and Services (ICMS) in return.
Not to mention the chance to deduct the accumulated balance to repair part of the IPVA and also have the opportunity to participate in draws.

Understand how the Paulista Invoice works

For each purchase that the consumer makes, upon confirming the CPF/CNPJ, an Invoice will be issued. In which, the commercial establishment will register and pay the ICMS. After the establishment makes the payment, the Treasury Department credits the customer with a percentage of the tax to which they are entitled. This way, the credit will be available for the buyer to recover and use within 5 years.
The recovery method is done by transferring the balance from the savings or current account and can be deducted from the IPVA payment.
